The Perks of a High Klout Score

22nd January 2011

Klout has called itself the standard of influence for measuring individual influence across Facebook and Twitter. With 500 Million and 175 Million users respectively, the tool has certainly defined a way to navigate the chatter and overload we all face in social. However, up to this point, the biggest concern for an influence score as an individual is so what? My score is a 45 (a drop from a 51 only a month ago, but who’s counting right?), but what does in earn me?

In a sea of millions of members across networks, searching for the perfect candidate to spread your businesses’ next big thing feels like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Klout is working to change that.

Earlier this month, Klout announced Perks, a platform allowing Klout users with high scores in targeted area, demographics, etc. to be rewarded  with, you guessed it, perks. For example, the company is currently running a campaign in San Francisco along with Audi allowing selected users to take the new Audi A8 for a test drive at an upcoming event as well as a chance to win a luxury weekend getaway.

It’s pretty clear that is is win-win for both sides. Exclusivity for users, perks for being the highly socially engaged. The brand finds not only a highly defined test market, but a market inherently inclined to spread the message to peers that are ready to listen.

As outbound communication becomes more and more defined by the actions of users rather than the advertisements of brands, these platform enhancement will help to finally uncover the ever elusive ROI we were all searching for in social in 2010.

Changes to Facebook Pages Insights

22nd December 2010

Over the past few weeks we have seen quite a few changes to Facebook and thanks to a few slips lately, Facebook Pages seem to be moving in that direction as well.

Take a look at a few of the subtle, but very helpful changes made recently to Facebook’s Page Analytics, Insights.

  • Graphics are improved and lines are now easier to read
  • Reports can easily be changed by date in the top navigation
  • Images can now be saved, printed or viewed full screen

Have you noticed any changes to Facebook Insights recently that I may have missed? Will the changes be helpful in your daily page management?

How to download your Facebook history

6th December 2010

Ever wondered what would happen if Facebook disappeared? All of those tagged photos from college, the wall posts from your best friend, even the events you attended 5 years ago, gone. Facebook has become a digital copy of our lives, and let’s be honest, we would all be pretty upset if it suddenly disappeared.

Facebook has proven it’s not going anywhere anytime soon, but just in case you can be sure to have file copies of all of that information by downloading it all. Say you lose your camera or your harddrive is fried…Facebook could come to the rescue.

Simply navigate to: Account > Account Setting > and between “Account Security” and “Deactivate Account” you will find “Download your information.”

Your file will include the following information:

  • Your profile information (e.g., your contact information, interests, groups)
  • Wall posts and content that you and your friends have posted to your profile
  • Photos and videos that you have uploaded to your account
  • Your friend list
  • Notes you have created
  • Events to which you have RSVP’d
  • Your sent and received messages
  • Any comments that you and your friends have made on your Wall posts, photos, and other profile content

Thanks to my friend Judy Yi for pointing out this tip on Twitter.
